LIVE PREMIERE OF “DOWN JERSEY” A SMASHING SUCCESS!
About 430 persons attended the premiere showing of “Down Jersey”. The film received rave reviews by those that attended. Only 10 days after broadcast, the film is NJN’s #2 selling tape for the year! Citizens United is proud to have been a key player in this NJN production.

CU Member, Congressman Frank LoBiondo, did a great job as master of ceremonies. Members Larry Merighi, Meghan Wren and Laura Johnson did a wonderful job of putting together a museum quality display of items depicted in the film. The Park Service, PSE&G, and Citizens United all had their organizations’ standard displays up as well. Member Janet Wolf braved it by donning her National Park Service full regalia, as did her colleague Chuck Mulliken. Gladis McGraw saved the day by taking nearly 500 reservations for the event. Then if that wasn’t already beyond the call of duty she showed up at the premiere, only 2 days after ear surgery, to take reservations at the door. Mary Lou Barbose, Joanne Murphine, Suzy Merighi, Dorothy Lang and Nina Kulkman all greeted and took reservations at the event. Cumberland County College and PSE&G did a splendid job of hosting the live screening.

The event received positive news coverage throughout the region (NJ, DE, PA, NY). Once again Citizens United can be proud of what our collective efforts can accomplish.

Down Jersey introduces historic traditions and modern activities, enriching your appreciation of South Jersey’s treasures. NJN (New Jersey Network) BROADCAST DATES; Friday, April 25 – 8 PM and Sunday, June 8 – 6 PM — UHF channels 23, 50, 52 & 58 and all New Jersey cable stations.

Our Mail Bag – Lots of nice mail has been received about the success of “Down Jersey”. Belva Prycl wrote, “My husband and I watched the film last night and were deeply impressed by the wonderful mosaic of land, water, architecture and people that typify this part of our state. I have not seen anything that put it all together so well before. The film really caught the sense of place that draws us all together.”

Citizens United has a display in the Millville Library’s glass exhibit case for the month of April – stop in and see it. Special thanks to Dale Praetorius and Joan Killpack for helping arrange the display and proofing the script. Local newspapers covered the display.

Contemplation – Margaret Mead once said, Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world – it’s the only thing that ever has.
