1995 List of Accomplishments

95-96 - CU distributes over 100 blue bird houses constructed by Bayside Prison.

95- CU osprey volunteers participate in NJN Network / NJ Division of Fish Game and Wildlife, Endangered and Nongame Species Program film “Survival of the Species”. Banding was demonstrated and a conservation narrative was delivered.

95 - CU encourages the DEP, US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Army Corps of Engineers to accept from Millville a parcel of land adjacent to the Millville Industrial Park abutting the Menantico River instead of requiring the construction of an artificial wetland. In 1996 this property became part of The Nature Conservancy’s managed lands, thus creating a bigger buffer between the industrial park and the river.

95 - Vineland Chamber of Commerce announces the “Ten hottest trends facing the chamber” the number one issue was, “Quality of life issues sensitive to the environment while advocating economic development”. The Chamber sited they were members of the Wild and Scenic initiative since 1989. CU is proud to be a member of number of local chambers, and is even more proud of the role our members played in this type of position coming from business interests. Way to go Vineland.

95 - CU receives its first memorial gifts in remembrance of son James Godown. The following year, 96 Brooks Rumbold’s family selects to do the same in remembrance of their father.

95 - CU develops and prints new brochure explaining the activities of the organization.

95 - CU distributes “Help Save Our World Booklet” (coloring book) to schools in which slide presentations are given. Booklet is a how you can make a difference format.

95-96- Encouraged the City of Vineland to use an alternative site for the development of an industrial park vs. using an area adjacent to a Nature Conservancy Preserve and the upper Maurice River. EDA funds were successfully applied to the alternative site.

95- CU osprey platform is adopted as the official design for the state. 94-97 CU osprey colony is the most productive in the state with a 2.1 - 2.8 chicks per nest productivity.

95- CU receives grant from Environmental Endowment for New Jersey, Inc. to construct osprey platforms. Also to provide a prototype platform to Bayside state prison, prisoners construct structures for use throughout suitable habitat in NJ.
