Frog Slog
Join Citizens United to Protect the Maurice River and its Tributaries, Inc. (“CU”) for their annual Frog Slog event on Friday, May 15, 2009 from 7:30 p.m. til 9 p.m.
Fred Akers, River Administrator of the Great Egg Harbor River Watershed Association, and Renee Brecht, Associate Director, CU, will lead us on a "frog slog" to some local vernal pools to discover the secret life of frogs on this night excursion.
Vernal pools are confined wetland depressions, either natural or man-made, which hold water for at least two consecutive months out of the year and are devoid of breeding fish populations. Vernal pools are often an overlooked and unique feature in some of our field and forest ecosystems. These pools, filled with water during the spring breeding season, harbor a variety of life including amphibians, insects, reptiles, plants and other wildlife.
Discover the secret life of frogs on this night excursion. Learn where and when to find different frogs and toads and learn how to distinguish one frog “song” from another. Come with a flashlight and be prepared for wet, frog-slog conditions. This event is free and open to the public.
Pre-registration required for the event. Contact Renee Brecht for information on either event, and to pre-register and for directions at 856-305-3238.
